The CILT Scottish Region Archives 2003

The first event of the year was "A Vision for Edinburgh" by Alex MacAuley, Project Director, Transport Initiatives Edinburgh, in which he outlined the proposals to introduce light rapid transit to Edinburgh. In February, David Leeder, UK Bus Director, First spoke on "First Bus Developments". this was followed by Craig Nelson who addressed February's meeting in Aberdeen on "Multi-Modal Transport Studies and the Public Voice: an Introduction to Public Participation and Transport Policy Decision-Making in the South West of England".

March saw a visit to Lansing Linde, the forklift truck makers East Kilbride facitlity during which members were given a guided tour of the plant. Another visit took place in April, when Army Headquarters Scotland was the venue for a talk on "Managing the Military on the Move". Simon Hindshaw spoke on "The Design & Construction of the Italian High Speed Railway" at the May meeting. Continuing the railway theme, a visit to Network Rail's Waverley Station, Edinburgh took place on Tuesday 27 May, during which members were given a guided tour of the station and signalling centre. The Annual General Meeting was held at the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathlamond in June.

The new season began with Derek Halden speaking on "Barriers to Using Public Transport" and he was followed in October by Mike Lunan, convenor of the Rail Passengers Committee Scotland whose talk, "Risk and Safety" gave members much food for thought. The Scottish Expo, Dinner & Conference was held at the Scottish Conference & Exhibition Centre on 5 and 6 November 2003, with the Annual Dinner on the evening of the 5th. Later that month, A. Olejnik and N. Gellatly provided an update on the Perth Transport plans and this was followed by David Scotney's presentation on "One Ticket". The year ended with the Annual Christmas Social event, "Cards in the Pot Night".
