The CILT Scottish Region Archives 2001

The year began with a presentation by the Scottish Branch Chairman, Mr. G. Condron, on "Customer Service Satisfaction". This was followed by Mr. Howard Blessington who spoke about the "Holy Grail" of transport economics, Road Pricing and later in February a group visited the ASDA Regional Distribution Centre at Grangemouth. Mr. John G. Russell spoke on "Scotland's Trade with Europe" in March and this was followed by a visit to British Transport Police Headquarters, Scotland. "Driving Scotland Forward" was the title of Freda Rapson's talk at the annual Perth Meeting. The last event before the summer recess was a visit to Eurocentral and a tour of the facilities.

The August event was a visit to the Powderhall Waste Transfer Station in Edinburgh and in September Harper Collins Publishers at Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow was the destination. Both of these visits were eduational and interesting. Ian Souter spoke on the "Potential for Light Rail" at meeting in Edinburgh on 22 October and the Branch Chairman gave his second lecture of the year in Aberdeen the following evening.

A visit to Glasgow Airport and a look behind the scenes took place in early November and Chris Austin spoke on "The Strategy for Rail in Scotland" later that month. The beginning of December featured a visit to the Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh, where there was both a tour of the brewery and sampling of the ales! the last meeting of 2001 was addressed by Mr. Mike Betts, the Traffic Commissioner for Scotland and this meeting also included the traditional festive fare and refreshments.
